1 Choose a clear and specific topic
The first step to designing an easy-to-understand infographic is to choose a clear and specific topic that matches your audience's needs and interests. You want to avoid vague or broad topics that can confuse or overwhelm your readers. Instead, focus on a single question, problem, or idea that you can answer or explain with relevant and reliable data. For example, instead of creating an infographic about the global economy, you could narrow it down to the impact of COVID-19 on a specific sector or region.

As i do, To make an infographic that is easy to understand, aim at simplicity and clarity. Visual hierarchy should be clear; the text should be concise while intuitive icons or symbols are used. For readability purposes, legible fonts have to be chosen because color palettes should be limited in order not to confuse viewers. Organize the information in a logical manner with effective spacing. Gauge comprehension of your infographic by trying it out with a diverse audience and making any modifications necessary.

One of the features I like about infographics is self-description. With few phrases and images, you can say a lot.If you want to create infographics that leave a lasting impression, limit the text. Instead of writing lengthy words or sentences, use key points. Furthermore, ensure your designs are well aligned. Using unclear fonts can also render your infographics useless. Therefore, write with clear fonts like Ariel, Time New Romans, etc.To ensure your infographics serve their purposes, endeavor to share them with a diverse audience and assess the feedback critically.

2 Use a logical and simple structure
The next step is to use a logical and simple structure that guides your readers through your infographic. You want to create a clear and coherent narrative that flows from the introduction to the conclusion. You can use different types of structures, such as chronological, hierarchical, comparative, or problem-solution, depending on your topic and purpose. You can also use visual cues, such as headings, colors, icons, or arrows, to indicate the order and relationship of your information. For example, you could use a timeline to show the evolution of a trend, or a pie chart to compare the shares of different categories.

3 Select the right type and amount of data
The third step is to select the right type and amount of data that supports your topic and message. You want to use data that is relevant, accurate, and credible, and that can be easily visualized and understood. You also want to avoid using too much or too little data that can distract or bore your readers. Instead, focus on the key facts, figures, or insights that you want to highlight and emphasize. For example, instead of showing all the data points of a survey, you could pick the most important or surprising ones and use them as bullet points or quotes.

The purpose of infographic is to communicate information in as snackable format as possible. So dumb everything down, don't stuff your copy with jargons, use element and data that is compatible with user understanding. Data is heavy to retain, so the focus on keeping the language as simple and uncomplicated as possible.

4 Choose the best visual format and style
The fourth step is to choose the best visual format and style that matches your data and audience. You want to use the most appropriate and effective type of chart, graph, map, or diagram to display your data in a clear and attractive way. You also want to use a consistent and appealing color scheme, font, and layout to enhance your infographic's readability and aesthetics. For example, instead of using a bar chart to show the distribution of a variable, you could use a histogram or a box plot to show the range and variation.

Making your message stick through visual analogies is a good tactic to consider. There are really obvious ones like illustrating the growing of a business through visuals around mountain climbing. Another one could be financial health as a garden. Strong revenues could be represented by flourishing plants, while expenses could be shown as weeds that need to be managed. Another example is mapping customer journeys as a board game. Each stage of the journey is a different square, with pitfalls representing challenges and ladders for shortcuts or successful strategies, making the process engaging and easy to grasp. Each example uses analogous images to make concepts easier to understand and remember.

5 Add context and explanation
The fifth step is to add context and explanation to your infographic to make it more informative and persuasive. You want to provide some background information, definitions, sources, or examples that can help your readers understand your data and topic better. You also want to include some analysis, interpretation, or recommendations that can show your readers the meaning and implications of your data and topic. For example, instead of just showing the percentage of people who use social media, you could explain why they use it, what benefits or challenges they face, or how they can improve their online presence.

6 Test and refine your infographic
The final step is to test and refine your infographic to make sure it is easy to understand and follow. You want to check your infographic for any errors, inconsistencies, or gaps in your data, structure, or design. You also want to get feedback from your target audience or experts to see if they can comprehend and appreciate your infographic. Based on your testing and feedback, you can make any necessary changes or improvements to your infographic. For example, you could simplify your language, adjust your colors, or add a call to action.

Denzel Washington said: "talk to me as if I were 3 yrs-old".And this is powerful as instantly we tell our brain not to bother with too much information.I find that the best to finetune infographics (and work in general) is to share them with a sample audience or colleagues to gather feedback.A tip to ensure greater results is to select individuals with varying levels of familiarity with the subject to check if your content comes across or not.

Infographic is combination of words & design. You need to focus on Keywords/ key messaging & build a story line first. Neither the written words nor the imagery should overpower. There needs to be a balance. Some easy ways to to do is to staying focused and to-point. Don't try to include everything in one Infographic. Clarity is prime objective.

Interactive graphics are going to be big this year. Incorporate clickable elements in your graphics, allowing users to explore data points or receive pop-up explanations. Here's an example.Data-driven Map with Hover Effects: Design a map infographic where users can hover over or click on different regions to display statistics, trends, or facts about those areas. This is particularly effective for displaying demographic information, environmental data, or market trends across geographical locations. Tool: "Tableau Public" offers capabilities to create interactive, data-driven maps that can be embedded into websites or shared directly, allowing for in-depth exploration of geographic data.Go forth and play!
