We have an exciting opportunity for a Summer 2024 - Data Analytics Intern to join our team with the Operations & Test Division.

This is a temporary role not to exceed 13 weeks.

As a Summer Intern at NASA JSC, you will:

  • Support the Systems Test Branch (EC4) at the Johnson Space Center as a Data Analytics engineer working with data generated in testing of hardware and humans (astronauts and test subjects) in our space simulation chambers
  • Use machine learning algorithms in extracting meaningful insights and cause-effect relationships from data sources like SQL/Historian sensor trends, PRTG network monitor logs and local data from National Instruments PXI data
  • Develop the tool to run on in-house computing resources – that is not Cloud-based
  • Perform other duties as required

Here’s what you’ll need:

Requisition Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited university
  • Completed at least 45 credit hours
  • Minimum of 2.8 GPA
  • Object-oriented programming experience – preferably JavaScript
  • Experience with Excel Macros and Visual Basic
  • Familiarity with SQL and Database concepts (records, tables, fields etc.)
  • Knowledge of http and web application development
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Requisition Preferences:

  • Working towards a BS degree in computer science or electrical engineering from an accredited university (at least 2 years of college completed)
  • Exporting and importing data in and out of SQL and Excel via APIs (Application Programming Interface)
  • HTML5, Python, SQL

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Other Essential Functions

Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
