Oh. My. Gosh.

These cookies are insane. I mean, seriously. These are probably the best cookies I've ever had in my entire life. And I've had a lot of cookies.

The idea behind these cookies came when I saw a recipe on Pinterest for cookie dough flavored popcorn and I thought "Hey, what if I reverse that?" And then shortly after "Hey, why don't I put other favorite movie-time treats in the cookies too?" Because, you know, I'm a cookie-holic and I can't just settle for popcorn in my cookies. No, no, no. I also need to stuff them with Milk Duds, Raisinets and Goobers, plus more chocolate chips and a vanilla fleur de sel to emphasize the sweet/salty going on from the popcorn. It's a super fun and silly flavor explosion and I adore it.

To be completely honest with you, my original idea was to not stop there, but to also add gummy bears and Mike and Ike's, but then I came to my senses and realized I needed to draw the line somewhere. Maybe next time... for now, I think this buttery, caramel, raisin, peanut, chocolate, salty deliciousness will have to do!

Do you play the Sims? I don't really play much, but I absolutely love it. At first, I was really excited to hear about the release of Sims 4 until I realized there would be pools or toddlers. What the what?! I'll just keep my Sims 3 for now. Well, if you play, you know that when sims learn a skill, they get the blue bar above their heads and it fills as they go up a skill level. I kiiiiiind of feel like that with my photography and editing skills thanks to the help of tons of videos and books. I don't post recipes in the order I make them, so some recipes may be months old while others were created that weekend. I feel as though something clicked and I am much more confident on how I go about it. Now, I just need to figure out my styling which I think won't be too bad as long as I remember to plan things out a little and not just start shooting and trying to figure things out on the fly. I mean how cute would it have been to get my old fashioned movie theater popcorn bowl and an overload of popcorn and leftover candy all around. Too bad I ate all the leftovers while I was baking. Oops. Next time I'll behave, I promise!

Now, back to the cookies..

Ingredients

  • 1 stick unsalted butter room temperature
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cup flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 ½ cups popped buttered popcorn must be microwave popcorn
  • 1 1.2 cups mixed Milk Duds Raisinets, Goobers and semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon fleur de sel I used one that was infused with vanilla or coarse sea salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Beat the butter until light and creamy. Mix in the sugars and beat until the mixture fluffy. Add in the egg and vanilla and mix until fully incorporated.

  • In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda and salt together. Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until incorporated.

  • Fold in the popcorn. It will seem like a lot of popcorn at first, but it will breakdown. Fold in the candy.

  • Plop heaping tablespoons (mine were closer to 1 ½ tablespoons) on your baking sheet at least an inch apart. Bake for 12 - 14 minutes, or until golden brown. Top with a sprinkling of fleur de del or coarse sea salt

This looks delicious! Thank you for posting - quick questions though:
    1. How many cookies does this make?
    2. What do you mean by "1 1.2 cups candy?"

Thanks again! Can't wait to try them 🙂

Hi Alyson, this recipe should make 20ish cookies (we did a lot of snacking on the dough and finished cookies along the way) that should read 1 1/2 cups. Thanks for pointing out that typo!

No problem! As soon as I posted this, I thought "it's probably just 1.5 cups" :p (my bad!)

Thanks so much for info on cookie amount and for clarifying chocolate amount!! I greatly appreciate it and am super excited to make these 🙂

These cookies are so creative - what fun! Why does the popcorn have to the microwave kind? I'm seriously tempted to try them - only problem is that I would have to go get candy, which means I would eat all of the candy leftover after making the cookies.

I usually make my popcorn on the stovetop and eat it plain (with nothing added) or a bit of salt. The microwave popcorn has that buttery/salty taste you can't get with stove or air popped popcorn. Of course, you can also bring home an extra bag of popcorn when you go out to the movies! I got the small boxes of candies from my grocery store, so I didn't have TOO much candy leftover. You can also maybe just pick one or two of your favorite movie theatre candies to use instead of all of the ones I mentioned!
